Laur-Meyrieux-2-portrait_tapis-Galets

Laur Meyrieux raises her awareness of Art and Architecture from her childhood with her family environment, a grandmother artist painter and an architect father. It seemed an evidence to her to study Art and Design. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Saint-Etienne and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

From the beginning of her career, she established her diversity of skills, as a furniture designer, graphic designer, interior designer, scenographer, artistic director. She worked for clients such as Habitat for lighting design; Shu Uemura for show window and event scenographies ; the architecture department of the SNCF for the furniture design of the VIP lounges of the main railway stations. At the same time, she has detailed her learning by working as a project manager for renowned designers and architects, such as: Jean Nouvel, Christophe Pillet, Studio Naço, and Ron Arad in London, and also for television set production, and for the international Trend agency Nelly Rodi.

Laur had always a great passion for Japan, for the minimal and radical aesthetics of its architecture and the delicacy of every detail of its aesthetics. In 2000, she is going to Tokyo to live this experience and immerse herself in the culture. She arrived in Tokyo with the desire to realize her design projects and to be settle in the city. Every moment has been a culture shock – and she had to invent, create, and adapt to a country far from her way of thinking. From this journey is born her large vision and a resolutely spirit turned towards a global world.

As soon as she moved to Tokyo, she founded “postnormal” : a collective studio with other designers, and opened a year later her own creative company : “Laur Meyrieux studio”.

After eleven Japanese years, she opened, in 2012, her creative studio in Hong Kong and lived there for 4 years.

These 14 years in Asia has given to her the opportunity to work on ambitious projects, for: – Hermès: VMD show window direction and event scenography – Restir luxury boutiques: the brand image and interior architecture which succeeded with a high visibility on the market and an international recognition- Tokyo Ebisu Garden Place: with a specific sound and lighting scenography or for Perrier Jouet, Agnès b, Chanel …

Laur receives several awards in France and in Japan including the prestigious design award from the international magazine FRAME for her exhibition « Poetic Landscape » and she realized several personal exhibitions.

In 2016, Laur is settling back in Paris ; she designs a collection of furniture for the French furniture brand Grange ; creates a rug for Toulemonde Bochart ; develops her own collection of objects, furniture, wallpaper and paintings in unique edition and limited art edition ; and she acts as artistic director on projects in Europe and Asia.

The philosophy of these new projects is based on an artisanal, ecological approach and an aesthetic gesture that bring to launch in 2021 a whole collection of high-end wallpaper « Les Papiers de Laur ».

These prints by sheet, resulting from original hand-painted creations, are declined in several atmospheres and allow each person to create his or her own mural composition.  The idea is for Laur to invite to participate the buyer in the creative gesture, as a collector.

More generally, Laur’s approach, made of rigor and freedom, embraces the exploration of color, materials, modern and innovative technologies, and her creations explore the ambiguity of forms between art and design; the perfection of finishes and details, and a real sensitivity to the work of light.

Aware that we entere in a world with a new way of life, Laur chooses to think and to create differently. She focuses her research and creations around ecodesign, she is interested about new ecological materials, ecological manufacturing and a sustainable economy.
